Description – essential information

Developed in response to the Nordic region’s growing exposure to climate impacts, geopolitical volatility, and reliance on food imports, the Nordic Food Alert project focused on regional food system resilience. In October 2024, it convened a high-level simulation workshop to test preparedness and spark forward-looking policy solutions tailored to the Nordic context.

Thematically, the workshop addressed:

  • Nordic food security and climate resilience
  • Geopolitical disruptions and trade risks
  • Cyber/infrastructure vulnerabilities
  • Collaborative policy-making and innovation

The workshop was rooted in the context of the Karlstad Declaration (June 2024) and was designed to directly inform policy discussions among national governments and Nordic institutions.

Stakeholders included national ministries, Nordic Council representatives, food agencies, regional civil society actors, and private sector representatives.

CRS co-led the design and facilitation of the crisis simulation, contributing:

  • Scenario development and technical methodology via the Technical Working Group
  • Interactive tools (app-based simulation materials, visual storytelling)
  • Expert facilitation and systems thinking methods
  • Integration of policy outputs for presentation to relevant senior officials
