MultiFutures: Multidimensional Transition Pathway Analysis for Sustainable Futures: Exploring  Alternative Paradigms and Broadening Policy Options through Innovative Scenario Development

The Centre for Systems Solutions is among 11 partners engaged in the MultiFutures Project that lasts for the next 3,5 years and with a total budget of 5 Million Euros. The Project, coordinated by the Energy Institute at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, won the call “HORIZON-CL5-2023-D1-01-06: Broadening the range of policy options in transition pathway analysis”.

MultiFutures explores and assesses the viability for Europe of various economic paradigms beyond growth, such as  Degrowth, Doughnut Economics, and Sufficiency Economics. By analyzing these paradigms’ assumptions about human behaviour, it seeks to identify new policy goals and mechanisms to achieve a post-growth future. This requires innovative measures to bridge theory and practice, evaluating their impact on different dimensions such as social, economic, environmental, and political aspects. Ultimately, it aims to understand the feasibility and acceptance of transitioning to alternative futures for building a climate-neutral, just, and resilient society.

In this project, CRS will design, develop and apply the Anticipatory Systems Mapping method, as well as a social simulation, to engage a broad range of stakeholders – from EU decision-makers to ordinary citizens on the ground – in co-development and co-learning processes. The CRS team is looking forward to facing the challenges and opportunities this initiative brings!
