The pilot project NEEST – NetZero Emission and Environmentally Sustainable Territories is being implemented as part of the EU Mission The 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 by the Polish cities: Kraków (the project leader), Łódź, Rzeszów, Warszawa, Wrocław and the Polish National Centre for Research and Development. The project aims to develop practical and scalable solutions in the area of building energy efficiency.
The task of the NEEST project is to create ready-to-replicate guidelines for the thermal modernization of various types of urban areas. The planned deep thermal modernization of residential, commercial, public, and single-family buildings aims to reduce emissions from these buildings to almost zero.
The project’s final outcome will be the development of universal operating models aimed at accelerating the energy transition and achieving climate neutrality in cities. Different types of models (e.g. technical, financing, social participation ones, etc.) will show how to carry out a complex modernization of buildings and urban districts acceptable to the local community. These models will also provide guidelines on how they can be used by other Polish and European cities.
Centre for Systems Solutions, together with its consortium partner Think Tank Miasto, is carrying out a number of activities aimed at developing a model for cooperation and competency building in the field of urban climate transformation process. This task is being delivered as part of public procurement commissioned by the Municipality of Wrocław.
The pilot project NEEST is funded throughNetZeroCitiesby the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme.
