Piotr Magnuszewski was a guest on the SAPEA podcast
Piotr Magnuszewski and Nicole Arbour (Belmont Forum, IIASA) were invited to the Science Advice for Policy by European Academies (SAPEA) podcast to talk about the usefulness of policy simulations in enriching science policy.
The two speakers had worked together during the Canadian Science Policy Conference to bring the conference’s participants interactive policy simulation experience – Arctic Simulation based on the outcomes from the CASCADES project.
In the podcast, Piotr and Nicole analyzed some serious games and simulations to highlight that these tools emphasize the causal connections in each decision. The simulation’s debriefing session creates a moment of deep reflection and understanding of what happened during the simulation. There is no need to indicate a clear loser and winner. This is, as explained by Piotr, the biggest difference between social and policy simulations, and games.
The podcast is also available on the SAPEA website, so feel invited to listen to it.
