Social simulation about sustainable development for high school students

Together with the partners of the FutureSIM project, we have developed an innovative social simulation for high school students. The simulation Up to You! focuses on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is part of a broader educational program to provide resources for teachers and students.

Among the educational resources created in the project are:

  • The Up to You! social simulation illustrates the complexity of decisions that must be made to achieve sustainable development. While playing it students can understand the challenges and trade-offs associated with achieving these goals.
  • A toolkit for teachers, allowing them to conduct interactive and engaging lessons on the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • A guide to implementing inclusive educational resources, containing examples and experiences gained during the project.

We invite you to two events summarizing the FutureSIM project:

  • the final conference, which will take place on June 24 in Vienna. During the conference, we will present the Up to You! social simulation, the teacher’s toolkit, and the handbook. It will be an excellent opportunity for discussion and exchange of experiences;
  • the online symposium that will be held on June 17. This event will allow participants from various parts of the world to get acquainted with the project’s results and participate in discussion panels.

To participate in the conference, we invite you to register at eucu.net/projects/sdg/.

The “Making Europe’s Future Sustainable! A Simulation-based Learning Program for Schools” project (also called FutureSIM) was carried out in collaboration with the Austrian Foundation for Development Research (ÖFSE), Rogers Foundation, and Vienna University Children’s Office. The project was funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ program.

We are pleased to have worked on this project and hope that our educational resources will contribute to increasing awareness and understanding of the principles of sustainable development among young people.
