Updates after the first year of PARATUS Project

The PARATUS General Assembly recently took place in Antalya, Turkiye. During two days of collaborative discussions and updates from the work of each Project’s Work Package, we gained new insights on the progress in research in the application case studies areas – the Caribbean Islands (multi-hazard and preparedness planning), the Alps region (cross-border transportation), Turkiye (earthquake megacities) and Romania (civil protection).

As the WP3 on Adapting to Changes, we have discussed with our partners on the further development of serious games and an augmented reality tool. We also brainstormed on how to best include these tools in the project outputs in order to increase stakeholder engagement and magnify the impact of the research beyond the PARATUS. Moreover, very soon we will be able to share more information on a new serious game that we have developed and that can be applied in disaster risk management workshops!

During the General Assembly, Michalina Kułakowska and Weronika Adamczak held the Evacuation Challenge Game. The game, linked with the PARATUS context, introduces challenges related to disaster response and evacuation, specifically in the context of a diverse cultural and linguistic environment. Project Partners took on roles of both citizens and rescue team members and were faced with difficulties faced by first responders!

This project has received funding from European Union’s Horizon 2021 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement N° 101073954.
